"Prelude: The Barbershop"

Good Morning!
Please put your cell phones completely out of sight for the FULL duration of the class.  Please do not have me remind you of this. NOTE: Please bring a book to class vs. reading a book on your phone.

NOTE: Please keep up with your assignments as we go through this second semester. My blog HERE is where you check to see if you have missed an assignment in the event of an absence, not after it is posted on PowerSchool.

1.  Some great lines from TEDTalk: How to Raise a Black Son in America:
              * "Their parenting always sought to reconcile the tension between having my siblings and I understand the realities of the world, while ensuring that we never accepted the status quo as inevitable."
              * "the need for education to be used as a tool for critical awakening and shared humanity."
              *  "No one can be authentically human while he prevents others from being so."

4.  Article:  "Prelude: The Barbershop"
                     Background on Ashanti Young
We will pause at points and reflect on what we have
read. Make notes in the margin.
